If you haven't already, get thee to the votery and VOTE!
Yes, I voted early this morning. Pre-coffee (don't worry, I wrote my selections on my hand just in case I forgot in a decaf haze), headed over to the village hall. And I was suprised - no line. Walked right in, signed my name and...wait. Don't we have to show a photo ID or something? They just took my word that I was E Waterstraat. Not even Elizabeth. Just E. I wanted to prove to them that I was E so I showed them my photo ID anyways. The kid (he looked like a kid) that handed me my ballot look less impressed with the photo ID but more impressed with the chocolate glazed donut he was eating before I got there.
I colored in a bunch of circles and smiled. Voting complete. Votes now securely into giant black machine that ate my ballot. I guess that is what the media is referring to when they talk about the Political Machine. For the record it spit my ballot out a few times. Hey machine - I don't care what your affiliation is, just do your job! Eat my ballot!
As I walked out a man handed me a sticker and another said to me NICE JOB! Yes! I agree. This is like going to the dentist. It's somewhat painful but you walk out with a sticker and a lollipop.
Wait a minute - they forgot to give me my lollipop!
Now, I want to talk about a serious voting issue here. The election that really matters. I received word today that my blog was nominated as one of the Top 10 Endurance Sport Blogs of 2008 on the RaceAthlete website. I am so flattered by this and I want to thank all of you that read and enjoy my blog. As you know, it's my life scribbled out across the internet for better or worse. Thanks for being a part of my life.
The voting for Best Endurance Sport Blog takes place in the first two weeks of November. Consider this my campaign for your vote. You might be able to vote as often as you'd like and I highly encourage you to participate in voter fraud by voting about 10000 times a day. I think they even accept votes from your dog. And - to all of my Canadian friends - this is one election that you can participate in around here so give me your vote, eh?
By the way - I should mention my running mate. After a careful selection process and decoration by way of $150,000 in doggie couture, I have chosen Boss. For awhile I considered my husband and it was a close race but in the end I guess I selected by process of name I liked best (how could you not like someone named Boss?) or boyish good looks (sorry, Chris, but Boss is small, furry AND smells like dryer sheets). To be sure Boss is up to the task of looking good next to me I have hired a $25,000 groomer to brush him and wipe his rear daily.
As for myself, I will take my nomination very seriously and promise if elected I will tackle the more important issues out there facing triathletes - limited use of pool lanes, drafting, rising entry fees, overuse of compression garments during Ironman, inappropriate display of body parts with white race outfits, obsessive posting on Slowtwitch, clinchers vs tubulars and whatever else we triathletes take too seriously.
Thank you for your support and no matter which side you are on today in the real world, let's all agree that in the cyberworld we are united in E.L.F. - VOTE!
